Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common allergic reactions that people will suffer from. It affects more than 20% of Americans and is considered to be one of the most common health problems in the United States. It causes the nasal passages to become inflamed and to also cause a watery nasal discharge and the itching of the eyes and the nose.
Most of the symptoms that are associated with allergic rhinitis will happen in the nose and the eyes when someone has been exposed to dander, dust, or different types of seasonal pollens that are able to cause this problem. Although most people start to suffer from this problem before they turn 30 it is possible for people of any age to deal with it.
Research shows that there is a very strong genetic link associated with people who suffer from it. That is why when one or both parents are afflicted with allergic rhinitis they take extra precautions with their children to help reduce their exposure. Depending on how severe it is some people may be restricted to what they are able to do. Some have to spend large amounts of time away from work or school and have to spend hundreds of dollars each year on medical bills and medications.
Causes
The most common cause of allergic rhinitis are the various seasonal allergens that people are exposed to throughout the year. Dust mites, mold, animal dander, and cockroaches are some of the most common that people can have in their house. Outside of the home they are exposed to grass, trees, and ragweed pollens
In order for seasonal pollens to develop they must be able to pollinate – which they do through cross pollination. Because of this they are carried through the air and make it harder for us to avoid them. Some of the smaller flowers and plants do not cause any problems for people.
You need to make sure that you keep your home clean and free of mold spores and animal dander. If you have pets then it would be easier to have wood floors and to keep the dander to a minimum. Mold will grow easily in dark, damp places and when these places are not cleaned it will grow and fester quickly.
